On The Etruscan Explorer, we follow their traces across Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany.
The journey begins in Orvieto, one of the great hill towns of central Italy. From there, we move slowly through volcanic landscapes, ancient valleys, deep green gorges and villages carved from tufa stone.
This is not the Italy of crowded monuments and rushed sightseeing. It is a quieter, older Italy. Here, history lives in the rock, in forest paths, in abandoned settlements and in the painted tombs of a vanished civilization.
Over eight days, we walk from cliffside towns to thermal waters. We follow Etruscan roads, visit medieval villages and cross the wild Maremma countryside toward the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The journey ends in Tarquinia. Here, the painted tombs of the Monterozzi Necropolis offer one of the most powerful windows into Etruscan life, art and imagination.

We walk through the Valle dei Calanchi, where Civita di Bagnoregio rises above the eroded clay hills. We enter the Vie Cave, the mysterious Etruscan roads cut deep into the tufa rock. We explore Sorano, Sovana and Pitigliano, where stone, history and daily life still grow from the same cliff.
Along the way, we pause at Saturnia’s natural thermal waters. We visit the ruins of Castro, cross the dramatic landscape of Vulci and finally reach the sea near Capalbio and the Feniglia beach.
