For centuries, travelers from Britain, Ireland, and northern Europe began their Camino this way, continuing inland on foot toward the shrine of St. James.
In 2027, pilgrims from around the world will be drawn to Santiago during the Holy Year (Año Santo Jacobeo), a rare celebration that occurs whenever the Feast of St. James, July 25, falls on a Sunday. The city comes alive with special liturgies, pilgrim events, cultural celebrations, and the opening of the Holy Door of the cathedral, creating a unique atmosphere along all the Camino routes.
We begin in the historic port city of Ferrol and walk along the soft curves of the estuary, where land and water meet in a shifting landscape of light and reflection. Gradually, the coast gives way to the deep green interior of Galicia. Forest paths, small farms, and quiet villages accompany us as the rhythm of daily walking settles in.
This is a shorter Camino in distance, yet rich in variety. Over 116 kilometers (72 miles), we follow old royal paths through eucalyptus and oak forests, cross medieval bridges, and pass through towns that have welcomed pilgrims for generations. Parts of the route lead through protected natural areas, where rivers, wetlands, and ancient woodlands still shape the landscape.
There is a particular stillness on the Camino Inglés. It remains one of the quieter Camino routes, offering space to walk, to notice, and to connect more deeply with the journey. Day by day, we move closer to Santiago, sharing a tradition that has united pilgrims for more than a thousand years.
