Camino in France 3: Condom to Roncesvalles

Description

Where the Camino crosses into Spain.
Join Spanish Steps on the Condom to Roncesvalles Camino walk, following the historic Via Podiensis, one of the most beautiful pilgrimage routes in France.

Beginning in the Armagnac town of Condom, we walk west through the gentle landscapes of southwest France: medieval villages, vineyards, bastide towns, quiet farming lanes and river valleys. This is a France of small places and deep history, where the rhythm of pilgrimage still feels close to the land.

As the journey continues, the character of the Camino slowly changes. Gascony gives way to Béarn, then to the Basque Country. The Pyrenees begin to appear in the distance, first as a presence on the horizon, then as the final great crossing of the journey.

Along the way, we pass through places that have welcomed pilgrims for centuries: Montréal du Gers, Eauze, Nogaro, Aire sur l’Adour, Navarrenx, Ostabat and Saint Jean Pied de Port. Near Ostabat, the great French pilgrimage routes come together before continuing toward the mountains.

The final days carry us from Saint Jean Pied de Port up into the high Pyrenean landscape. We walk to Honto, then continue toward Roncesvalles, the legendary monastery town in Navarra where the Camino Francés begins in Spain.

This is not only the end of the French Chemin. It is also the threshold of Spain.

With expert guides, van support, luggage transfer and carefully selected country hotels, Spanish Steps makes this historic route both meaningful and manageable. You walk the miles that feel right for you, while the support van gives comfort, flexibility and peace of mind.

This is a journey for those who love the Camino and want to understand its deeper geography: not only Santiago, but the long approach through France, the gathering of routes, and the powerful moment of crossing into Spain.
