9 Days Along the Atlantic on the Portuguese Coastal Camino
Imagine walking beside the Atlantic Ocean, with colorful fishing villages, golden beaches, and beautiful coastal landscapes unfolding before you each day.
Our Portuguese Coastal Camino from Porto to Baiona is a wonderful journey through Portugal and Galicia, combining spectacular scenery, fascinating history, delicious local food, and the simple pleasure of exploring the world on foot.
Beginning in the beautiful city of Porto, we follow mostly the Senda Litoral, staying close to the ocean along wooden boardwalks, sandy beaches, quiet coastal paths, and charming seaside towns. Along the way, we discover Portugal’s maritime traditions, picturesque windmills, historic lighthouses, and wonderful places such as Vila do Conde, Viana do Castelo, and Caminha.
One of the most memorable moments comes when we cross the Minho River by boat into Spain, entering the green landscapes of Galicia. Here, the Camino leads us past the extraordinary Monastery of Santa María de Oia, dramatically overlooking the Atlantic, before reaching beautiful Baiona, a historic harbor town where Columbus’s ship La Pinta arrived in 1493.
Throughout our journey, there is plenty of time to discover local traditions, enjoy fresh seafood, stop for a café con leche overlooking the ocean, and share wonderful moments with fellow travelers.
With Spanish Steps’ experienced guides, carefully chosen accommodations, luggage transportation, and van support, we enjoy the authentic Camino experience with an extra level of comfort and care.
Our journey concludes with a special celebration in Baiona, surrounded by the beautiful coastline we have followed for nine unforgettable days.
A wonderful coastal Camino, filled with Atlantic landscapes, fascinating discoveries, warm hospitality, and the friendships that make walking together so special.
For those who wish to continue their pilgrimage, our Camino Portugués Baiona to Santiago offers the opportunity to experience the next chapter of this beautiful journey.
