In 2027, during a Holy Year in Santiago de Compostela, we invite you to walk the Camino from its legendary beginning in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, across the Pyrenees into Spain, through the heart of northern Spain, and ultimately to Santiago de Compostela before continuing by shuttle to Finisterre on the Atlantic coast.
For more than a thousand years, pilgrims have followed this path toward Santiago. They crossed mountain passes, walked through vineyards and forests, entered great cathedrals and humble village churches, and discovered that the Camino is as much about the people you meet as the places you reach.
Our pilgrimage begins in the French Basque Country, in the walled town of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. For the first time, Spanish Steps is offering the complete Camino from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France, including the historic crossing of the Pyrenees into Spain. The route is one of the most iconic and memorable stages of the entire Camino, a day that has marked the true beginning of the pilgrimage for generations.
Over the following 36 days, we walk across the breadth of northern Spain. We pass through Navarra, La Rioja, Castilla y León, and Galicia, following ancient footpaths through vineyards, mountain landscapes, open plains, historic cities, and quiet rural villages. Along the way, we encounter monasteries, castles, cathedrals, and traditions that have welcomed pilgrims for centuries.
Reaching Santiago during a Holy Year makes this journey even more special. These special Jubilee years occur whenever the Feast of Saint James falls on a Sunday, drawing pilgrims from around the world to Santiago in a shared celebration of faith, culture, history, and community.
And yet, for many pilgrims, Santiago is not quite the end. After reaching the city, we travel together by shuttle to Finisterre, the legendary “End of the World,” where the land gives way to the Atlantic Ocean. Standing on these windswept cliffs provides a memorable and meaningful conclusion to the pilgrimage.
