"Here is a long over due thanks. Walking the camino was an experience of a lifetime. Not a day goes by that I do not think of my time on the camino and the friendships I made while walking to Santiago. The guides were always a welcome sight for us along the way to offer their support and encouragement. I could never have accomplished all this without Spanish Steps. Thank you so much for the efforts of all your group to make it a true experience to cherish. The camino will always hold a special place in my heart. Hope to see you on another trek."
Judy T. Ottawa, Canada 35 day Complete Camino 2007
"I feel very grateful to you for providing the arrangements and assistance that permited me to fulfill this long ago cherised dream. Your very well balanced combination of services provided, and allowance of independence, made me able to secure the solitude that is proper on a pilgrimage, and the interaction with a group of extraordinary people, from seven countries around the world, that very much enriched my spirit.
Spanish Steps met and exceeded all my expectations. It is necessary for me to highlight your guides. Vanessa is a beautiful young lady that brightened up my days on "The Camino" and Emmanuel has discovered at a very young age that being of service to others is the best thing one can do. Bruno and Neil were also very helpful.
The degree of joy, peace and liberation that I experienced walking "El Camino" is unique in my 60 years of life, and will remain in my heart forever. Having Juan Carlos as a friend on "The Camino" was also a wonderful and unexpected plus on the pilgrimage.
I am already planning with my wife Martha another experience with you, maybe as soon as next year. I have also referred you to friends that are interested in "El Camino".
Manuel V., Mexico City, 35-day Complete Camino 2007
"Every now and then, forget the considerations of "what ifs", I follow my heart. The Camino Long Walk was the most daunting and the most filled with self-revelations of any adventure I have experienced. The lessons are still coming at me and the processing of this trip will probably take a lifetime.
The journey was aided considerably by the supportive and wise leadership of Vanessa and Manni. They gave me encouragement and the strength to keep going -at my own pace- and kept me from sinking into self-pity. They seemed to feel that I could make it, so I felt that too!
I would follow Manni and Vanessa anywhere. They are terrific."
Barbara B., Montpelier, VT Camino Long Walk - Sept 2007
"I would like to thank you so much for organizing the 2007 Complete Camino. It was a privilege and an honour for me to do this amazing walk. I have so many beautiful memories of the ever changing countryside, tranquil villages, stunning cathedrals, endless wining and dining and most importantly, the people who walked in and out of my life. What a team with Manni, Brunno, Neal and Vanessa, who with their own special qualities, ongoing kindnesses and generosity, added another dimension to the walk.
All those delicious lunches, snacks and never ending vino tinto. What a sight you were for us tired, hungry and foot-sore pilgrims. You always appeared on the horizon, when we needed you. So many special moments.I will always remember our off track adventures, with lots of champagne, a big plate of steak and then finding that little dog for all those bones.
A big thankyou for all those behind the scenes acts of generosity. I miss you all. I send you all my love and prayers for a happy and beautiful life."
Marie, Australia - 35 day Camino - 2007
"Thank you for a brilliant Camino and one that was well done. You and your staff are amazing. I look forward to Argentina, Asturias and just being with you again. Keep up your wonderful and unique contribution to the Camino."
Antionette H. Napier, New Zealand & Loveland, Ohio - 35 day Oct 2007
I miss the Camino so much--the beauty and tranquility as well as the people from our group and those I met along the way. I also miss the solitude and having my own room. I enjoyed the experience so much and I appreciate all that you did to make the trip and experience truly memorable.
I have gotten back into my yoga practice slowly as my muscles are so tight from all the walking. I am learning to do less in everything and to enjoy the moment and not always look for what's coming next. The Camino was truly life-changing."
Beverly A. Arizona 35-day Complete Camino - 2007
"My friend Bonnie S. and I had an amazing experience going to Spain in October, 2005 and walking the Camino. Such a great time, good food, wonderful people, the farm houses (B&Bs) are 5-Stars. So, we signed up for the MAIDEN VOYAGE to PATAGONIA! Let me say, just plain fabulous! I'm looking forward to my third trip with Spanish Steps in September, 2007. I give Judy a 10 for details, effort and her personal skills. She runs Spanish Steps FIRST CLASS."
Petra W., Germany - Los Angeles, CA
"I
am writing to express my heartfelt thanks to you for a truly
wonderful Camino. It was a life changing experience for me!
I cant stop talking about the Camino or Spanish Steps
with my friends here in Australia. The itinerary, accommodation,
food & the guided tours were all marvellous. You have
assembled all the elements of a great journey Judy. Our hotels
were very well-appointed & so comfortable. The dinners
were delicious. Our picnic lunches perfect and such a delightful
way to spend an hour before setting off again on the Camino
for the afternoon. My enjoyment of the Camino was due in very
large part to our extraordinary guides Manni & Vanessa.
They worked tirelessly to ensure that the Camino was a powerful
& magical experience for us. Their guidance & support
was tremendous. I couldnt have finished the Camino without
them. Manni in particular, continuously went above & beyond
what anyone could expect of him to make the journey a remarkable
experience. Mannis knowledge of the history of Spain
& the Camino, of architecture and Spanish culture added
greatly to my understanding & enjoyment of the Camino.
It was a pleasure to make this journey with the Spanish Steps
team. Thank you Judy!"
Ann Devine, Australia, Camino Long Walk - Sept 2007
"Just
wanted to let you know that Chris and I thoroughly enjoyed
the Camino walk. Manni and Vanessa were great guides and certainly
tried to ensure that the experience was great for each of
us. They were always kind, responsive, caring and positive.
We would be happy to travel with them again and to have them
as friends. We had a wonderful time and thanks to you and
your team."
Shaheera, Memphis TN, Camino Long Walk, Sept 2007
"It
would not be correct if Carmel and I did not send you a word
of thanks for the beautiful trip you brought us on. We enjoyed
every minute of it and can justly say it was the most enjoyable
trip we were ever on. We are still talking about it.
It is difficult to find out what was the best day, since one
was only better than the next. Also the group of Americans
were so sociable and diplomatic. It all contributed to the
enjoyment of the week.
While the history of Santiago means more to us now that we
have arrived home, we found that the people that we encountered
in the different villages, and Santiago itself, and all who
guided the trip, is a more important memory to treasure. May
God bless you on any future walks that you should lead."
Carmel and John Owens, Ireland - Camino de Santiago, Sept
2007
"The
trip was absolutely incredible - and all three guides were
fantastic! Many, many thanks to you for all that you did to
make the experience one we will never forget!"
Carol
C V - Houston, TX Camino, Sept 2007
"Thank you for the amazing and magical experience you
created over the past eight days. Thank you for going way
above the call of duty and being very kind and considerate.
We were searching for a time and place to celebrate and reflect
and you really provided a soft, fun and peaceful tour. We
look forward to staying in touch with you and wish you and
Juan Carlos much happiness in the years to come."
Sonya R. and OJ J., San Francisco, Northern Adventures
2007
"Team Texas had a remarkable trip with Spanish Steps
in Galicia . Everything about it was goodthree fabulous
guides, delicious picnics and meals, beautiful places to stay,
great organization, perfect weather, and the amazing camino
itself. Since I was the one who suggested the trip to six
friends, my reputation was on the line. You exceeded all our
expectations and made me look good. And let me say that we
were especially fortunate to have Vanessa, Manni and Bruno
assigned to our group. As one of our team said, with them
we got the great combination of beauty, humor, and knowledge.
Each one went out of their way to be friendly, helpful and
accommodating to us and contributed in their own way to the
success of this experience. We also loved having the benefit
of joining with the other group for most things. They were
all delightful and we all loved the chance to make new friends.
All in all, we were very pleased and would definitely recommend
this trip to others."
Judy S, Houston, Camino Sept., 2007
"Thank you for another wonderful time on the Camino.
We loved the beautiful scenery, walks, churches and our new
friends on this trip. What a special group it was. It was
great to see Juan Carlos again. I never thought I would have
the thrill of walking up the O Cebriero hill again. Good luck
with your B&B in Asturias. Your kindness is so enduring."
Love, Betty and Bill W., Torrance, CA May 2007
"Thank you so much for a wonderful Camino de Santiago.
Your sense of fun, expert organization and comprehensive knowledge
of Spain made it a truly memorable experience. Best wishes
for continued sucess with Spanish Steps."
Susan C., Alberta, Canada, May 2007
"We all enjoyed our walk and are coming back next year
and hope to stay in your B & B. We had a great time with
Lorraine and hope to touch base with her if she still intends
to come to London. Stay in touch and I will continue to push
your product because I think its the best."
Kerin , New Zealand, Pilgrim Special, June 2007
"I have been meaning to write you to let you know we
had a wonderful time
on the tour. Vanessa was a great guide/leader. It was truly
a very
special six days of walking. And, we also enjoyed the trip
out to Fisterre afterwards."
Dennis H., Alemeda, CA - Pilgrim Special - June 2007
"My wife and I have been on many exotic vacations around
the world, but they all seem to run together in our memory
after a while. Our Camino/Long Walk this summer was the most
memorable adventure we've ever had. Lorraine and Vanessa were
fabulous guides, and your trip planning impeccable. After
a month we still look at our pictures every day, and can't
stop showing them to our friends and describing our wonderful
walk. We're sure to do another adventure with you; we're even
talking about the 35-day Complete Camino for next year. Thanks
again."
Charlie and Barbara L., Randolf, NJ - Camino Long Walk
- May 2007
" It was a truly remarkable pilgrimage experience --
the beautiful scenery, the history, the spirituality, the
exercise component and more than enough great food and wine
to keep us properly fueled. Judy and team are logistical geniuses
and their love for the Camino, the history of the area and
what they do shines forth. I'll be back!"
Kathy
K. Houston, Texas - Camino Long Walk - May 2007
"We loved the trip. The weather was perfect (one day
of rain). The scenery was great and Mark and I were both impressed
with Spanish Steps. We will definitely use them again. The
hiking was great and the
accommodations were right up our alley."
Suzanne
and Mark P. Chicago, Andalucia 2007
"What
a delight this has been. We look forward to another trip with
Spanish Steps."
Betsy K. New York, NY - Camino Long Walk May 2007
"I enjoyed every minute of traveling the Camino with
you. Thank you for all the effort you put into making this
special trip so wonderful."
Alice F. Katonah, NY - Camino Long Walk May 2007
"A
long overdue thank you to you, Juan Carlos and Vanessa for
an amazing Spanish experience The Camino walk was of course
the highlight and all your personal touches made it that much
more special. Vaness was so professional, good fun and took
good care of her diverse flock.
A few of the Canadian contingent met for dinner the other
evening, sharing memories that will last a very long time.
We hooted recalling our song and dance routine that got us
through the final 5 km of our longest day.
Great fun was had by one and all. Many thanks and good luck
to you and Spanish Steps. Exciting times ahead!!! Adios and
Buen Camino!!"
Gail H., Ottawa - Pilgrim Special Camino, April 2007
"We
all had a wonderful time. Thanks for the memories. You do
a truly superb job, we were all just responding to your positive
attitude, sense of fun & love for Spain & the Camino.
I know we'll meet again."
Love, Bicky K., New York, NY Camino Long Walk - May 2007
"We
are back home again in Ottawa and remembering our wonderful
time with you and everyone from the walk. Thank you so much
for organizing such a fantastic and memorable experience.
You do such a great job at looking after all the details -
big and small, and that's what makes it all so special. We
will always remember this trip and you may see us again!"
Barbara O. Ottawa, Canada, Camino - April 2007
"I just want you to know what a treasure you have in
Vanessa. She was just great with our group - so helpful, considerate
and caring about each person's needs. We all thoroughly enjoyed
ourselves and each one of us was sorry to see Vanessa leave
when the trip was over. Thanks for everything."
Barb P., Ogdensburg, NY Pilgrim Special Camino Tour - April
2007
Thanks
again for an unforgetable piligrimage on the Camino.
We all had a great experience. God bless you."
Fr. David T.
St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary, Boyton Beach, Florida
Private Camino Group - Semana Santa / Holy Week - 2007
"Just
wanted to tell you how much we all enjoyed the tour. Javier,
having lived most of his life in Granada, was so well informed
about the history, and so enthusiastic to share his love of
Andalucia with us. Not to mention he had a never-ending supply
of jokes at dinner! He was also very helpful with suggestions
of what we should see and do in Cordoba for our overnight
trip, and made our reservations. Jim was more than just a
driver, and shared his unique perspective as a British transplant,
and we marveled at his command of the language as he conversed
(bike talk!) with Javier. We thought all the hotels/hostels/b&b's
were very nice, and oh, the meals---even though we hiked every
day, it didn't offset the delicious calories!"
Angela K., Crested Butte, CO Andalucia Walking Tour - April
2007
"No
matter where you go with Judy, it will be the best thing you
will ever do! My husband and I responded to a very small ad
in the Denver Post 'way back in 1996. The following April
we flew to Madrid on our way to meet Judy in Pamplona. We
also met 5 other pilgrims, with whom we bonded instantly.
Our walk across Spain became the most important trip of our
lives. At this time, 10 years later, I would go again, in
a heartbeat, if only I was still ten years younger! But the
memories sustain me in my dreams! I cannot imagine there
is any other guided trip as well organized and better fed
than Spanish Steps. It's like being with family! You can rest
assured that if you really want to walk the walk, you won't
find anything important left out! It is wonderful. I envy
you
Meldie C '97 (walk of, not class of!) Clearwater, FL
"I
have thought of you often and I keep the Liebana and the Quiros.es
web sites handy and I visit them even if only in my head.
I never had an experience like this summer and I have NEVER
eaten so well so consistently!!!!!!! I send you a hug and
lots of well wishes."
Cary, FL - Camino del Norte, 2006
"Can't
thank you enough for the wonderful job you and your team did
on the yoga/hiking tour of Tuscany!! I had a great time! I
look forward to some day meeting you again. Perhaps on the
El Camino walk. Perhaps in Colorado. Who knows. Take care
of yourself!"
Vicky N., CT, USA - Yoga Tuscany 2006
"I so enjoyed our walk and particularly the group. The
dynamics of all of us was great. And of course you set the
stage to allow us to have such a wonderful experience. I keep
reflecting and quoting what you said near the end about how
many people dont actually get the meaning and full value
of the trip until after, and sometime long after they return.
I have been gaining insights since returning and still am
processing all the learnings and insights from the journey.
It was really a special trip so a big thank you for creating
such a fantastic company and team to support people like myself
on the walk. Please keep me in mind for any other things like
this that you may be doing."
Shannon, Ontario, CANADA - Sept. - Oct. 2006 Camino Long
Walker
"Thanks for a great trip! It seems so long ago wish I
could return and rewalk the Camino now that I know what to
expect. Maybe sometime in the future
another route.
You gals ROCK!!!!"
Wendy & Robert H., Ellicot City, MD - Camino Long Walk
2006
"How
special it has been to be with you once again. Your hospitable
presence and joyous leadership has gifted all of us. Tagore
has said that often we tend to see life as all joy, yet as
we live it we see that life is service. Once we serve, we
see that service is joy - this truth you live out! You make
it an adventure fun... Thanks, Judy. I trust our paths will
cross again."
Jan K. Lawerence KS, Tuscany 2006
"When I first heard about Spanish Steps, I could not
have imagined what a fine journey I would be taking. Thank
you for all you do to make the Camino a walk that exceeds
expectations. Your generous and calm nature help to make each
of us feel personally cared for. I so much enjoyed every aspect
of the trip, and the bonus was spending a little time getting
to know you.
Thanks for a special and extraordinary walk across northern
Spain ? and thanks for opening up a new world and so many
possibilities.You?re the greatest!"
Eileen G., San Francisco, CA Camino del Norte - June 2006
"I can't tell you how much I (we - Vicky and I) enjoyed
the trip. I know everyone said it again and again but you
and your crew really made it perfect. I think I've convinced
my husband and maybe a couple other people to take the Camino
walk next year so I'll most likely be in touch."
Julie K. - Oxford, CT - Yoga in Tuscany, May 2006
"Muchas gracias para el camino maravilloso en Espana!
Recomiendo el viaje a todos mis amigos en Calgary. The trip
truly changed my life. I will always remember the people,
the conversation, and the truly healing aspects of this journey.
I hope that I can make another trip in the future with Spanish
Steps. Your guides, Carlos, Molly, and Georgie, really knocked
themselves out and were essential to this beautiful and meditative
experience."
Don Ricardo de Calgary - Camino Long Walk - May 2006
"We had a great time,
Judy. And likewise.... how nice to put a smiling face with
your email notes. I'm sure the trip will continue to bubble
up in my thoughts as I sort out the jumble of daily events.
Please send a big hug to Lorraine. She was a great traveling
companion. Que Le Vaya Bien."
Hallie from Texas, Camino de Santiago - June 2006
"Just a quick note to say the trip was wonderful. Lorraine,
Molly and Georgie are a rare breed and judging from our trip
you are one lucky person to have reeled them in to Spanish
Steps. The food was great, the accommodations were great,
the walking was great, the weather was great and the group
of pilgrims whom I had the pleasure of experiencing this journey
with were absolutely wonderful. The energy within the group
as well as along the camino was magical. Thanks for doing
what you do."
Char, Chicago - Camino Sampler 2006
"Thanks
so much for a wonderful adventure. This was the perfect way
for us to experience Spain and the Camino. We appreciate your
expertise and connection to the people and the places we stayed."
Jim and Kristin, Vermont - Camino del Norte 2006
"This
is a quick note to let you know how very much my friend Penny
and I enjoyed our Camino Sampler trip from May 27-June 3.
Guides Carlos and Lorraine were outstanding listeners and
paid strict attention to what members of the group wanted.
They also kept us laggers going neither encouraging nor discouraging
Penny and I from boarding the van when we needed to. Penny
and I were delighted with the group of women from Canada,
too. How fortunate for us to fall into that particular jolly
group of family/friends. We were very compatible. The last
day was hard, hard to give ourselves over to a new guide in
a new setting, hard to say good-bye to our familiar Carlos
and Lorraine, hard to end just when we were getting good at
the routine. Lorraine says you have a lot of retunees among
your clients. I can see why! If our tour is an example, you
run a taut operation and do a wonderful job of smoothing the
road for the pilgrims. Thanks for all the hard work that you
and your staff do to make things great for we tourists!"
Elinore C, CA. - Camino 2006
"Have
been home for 11 days and am still feeling mellow. Have been
meaning to write or e-mail you but wasn't sure the best address
to use. Have been talking non-stop about all the ways that
the trip was truly magical. Granted that Tuscany is incredibly
beautiful, that by itself wouldn't have done it. I am convinced,
for whatever that is worth, that your presence and the chemistry
of you and your staff, made all the difference in the world.
What was striking was that the staff never seemed like staff
but rather like people who had a special affection for Italy
and a wish to share that joy with us. As I walk down the street
or sit on the subway, I will suddenly have an image of a particular
moment such as the moment in the vineyard, serving as translator
for Maura and the owner's father or walking around Siena with
the incredible guide whose name I can't remember or the silent
walk just noticing all of the wildflowers. Your friend Sergio's
arrival was just another bit of magic since I didn't relish
worrying about all of the train connections. Four of us were
in Robin's class on Thursday Sheila, Edie, Judy and I and
we were glad to see one another although we would have preferred
a class on the patio at Meleto."
Ellen ( Yoga and Walking in Tuscany 2006)
The trip
surpassed our expectations! We've always been proud to be
"independent" travelers; so we were a little hesitant
to go on a guided tour of the Camino. We were pleasantly surprised.
You have found the magic niche of helping without hovering.
The wonderful knowledgeable guides never made us feel as though
we were being "herded," and yet they gave us tremendous
support- physically, mentally and emotionally. Their good
humored help was always welcomed. It was also a great plus
having Juan Carlos to give us the cultural view of the native
Spaniard.
The accommodations were luxurious and a unique picture of
the Spanish countryside. And the daily picnics were elegant
and delicious. We have been singing the praises of Spanish
Steps since our return and thank you for making this fabulous
experience possible."
Tricia and Henry F, Oak Island, NC - Camino Long Walk 2006
" The experience (on the Camino) was awesome. I am trying
to learn how to download and upload photos and relishing the
new friends that Bill and I have made. I can't seem to stop
talking about it. Molly was terrific and we thoroughly enjoyed
Carlos, as well as Georgie. By the way, thank you for your
personal assistance with accommodations in Potas and Santillana
del Mar. They were wonderful. And, the north coast of Spain
is a real treasure. Wish more people from America would take
advantage - off the beaten track of Seville, Cordoba, Madrid,
etc."
Marie M. Hawaii, Camino Long Walk 2006
"Thank you so much for what you do ! Caron and I had
the most enjoyable time with the whole group in Toscana. There
will be lasting friendships from the time spent at Meleto.
Experiencing the Italian culture and the memories and friendships
will last a lifetime -- PRICELESS ! ! ! I felt honored to
be the only man on the trip with all the wonderful women.
While walking and talking, I did have personal contact with
everyone, and that was a great part of the experience. I will
never forget our time in Chianti! Have a safe and smooth voyage
to Spain on the deep blue sea Oh!"
Lorenzo ( aka- Larry - LI, NY ) Tuscany Yoga and Walking
trip - 2006
"Grazie
mille to you and your wonderful staff for an unforgettable
trip!
I think we all felt pampered and beautifully taken care of.
I did not have a
camera with me, but I know you will be inundated with pictures
from the
other girls. Viktoria has a great shot of all of us in Siena.
We took a lot
of picture of Priti doing asanas against the backdrop of the
beautiful
Tuscan hills and she took shots of us during class, so you
should get
something usable for your website. I will definitely keep
in touch with you
to see about forthcoming trips. Thanks again for everything,
Judy. You're special."
Maura New York, NY -- Yoga and Hiking in Tuscany 2006
"We
had the absolute BEST time! Sounds like we hit an excellent
week - weather wise! Thank you again. Now all our girlfriends
promise to come next time - back to Spain - hope to stay at
your B&B and walk the Camino. The Castle is etched in
my mind for a lifetime. I want to go back there again and
again!!! We have so many wonderful memories from each and
every day. Thank you again Judy.
You are the best!!!"
Annalie H., PN. Yoga and Hiking in Tuscany 2006
"I
just got back from Italia last night and wanted to thank you
again for everything you did to make the week so great in
Tuscany. The rest of my trip was full of great sites, interesting
travel. I ran into Leland on the train on the way to Positano
- we drank wine and passed the time talking about the wonderful
week at Castelo di Meleto. I will definitely be doing this
again or the Santiago trip next. I do hope you have time to
relax before your next tour. At any rate much grazie."
Karen W. Minneapolis - Yoga-Walking Retreat in Tuscany
2006
"I
can't begin to tell you how wonderful my adventure was with
Spanish Steps. I felt so lovingly cared for by your guides
every step of the Camino. This was my personal version of
a "marathon" and Molly, Georgie & Juan Carlos
made it possible. Thank you so much allowing me the opportunity
to participate in such a challenging and life-transforming
endeavor. Everything. Everything was perfect."
Gigi, Nevada - Camino Long Walk 2006
"While
you're on my screen just let me say that it was a great trip
this fall and
becomes more valuable in retrospect. Molly and Richard were
remarkable and I especially appreciated the attention to detail
and their efforts to introduce us
to the traditions of the Camino. It was a very rich and connecting
experience. Many thanks."
Mary Eleanor Sch. Reno, NV Camino 2005
"I
went on your Long Camino last May with Molly. It was an absolutely
wonderful experience and with perfect weather. The charming
places we stayed in and the great food and wine added so much
to the whole trip. I am heartily recommending Spanish Steps
to several friends."
Louise F. Whitneyville CT, Camino Long Walk May 2005
"Words
cannot express my gratitude to you for your many, many kindness'
to me and to my family during the most amazing journey. To
say youve gone above and beyond so frequently
for me is a gross understatement! Your thoughtfulness and
beautiful heart will be with me forever."
Rosemary Z. Boston, MA - 35-Day Complete Camino October
2005
"In case we forgot to tell you what an ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS
JOB Molly did during our Camino Walk, please accept this note
of belated congratulations and kudos. We've taken numerous
guided hiking trips -- both in the US and overseas-- and want
you to know our experience with Molly was a "10".
We had a wonderful time as a result of their considerate and
enthusiastic support. You are fortunate to have them as staff
members!"
Ken & Judy D, Ranco Palas Verdes, CA - 14-Day Camino
Long Walk 2005
"We want to thank you for a wonderful trip on the Camino.
The "delicioso" food, wine selections, accommodations,
and great company were all exceptional. We couldn't have organized
our trip without your expertise. You are one organized lady!
Leo, Ricardo and Brian always were ready to go the extra mile
with us. They are absolutely top notch as guides as well as
just being nice people. We don't know how you could ever find
a better staff."
Sue A. and Roger M., Colorado - The 35-Day Complete Camino
Trip 2005
"First
let me thank you again for a wonderful trip across northern
Spain. I enjoyed everything about El Norte -- the scenery,
the inns, the food (especially our marvelous lunches, produced
out of the back of a van!!!), the culture, and the people.
What a good group of fellow-travellers! I don't think one
could have improved on the company! Thank you so much for
all of your hard work and efforts on our behalf. You made
everything easy and thoroughly enjoyable for us!"
Evelyn F. New Jersey - Camino del Norte June 2006
"You
have been a wonderful host. I admire your knowledge and fortitude
and adventurous spirit. We have been so lucky with you and
Ricardo as our guides/cooks. Thank you so very much and I
hope to walk with you again in the future."
Jeanette A - California - Tuscany 2005
"Although
this is the first time meeting you (second trip with Spanish
Steps) this was really an impressive experience. You have
put together a tour that really makes a difference. I am glad
I have chosen to walk this trip with you at this particular
moment in my life. I hope to see you on the next trip."
June Wei, Hong Kong - El Camino del Norte 2005
"I
will never travel any other way but this way from now on.
What an incredible adventure and memory. The best food I've
ever had - made with such love by your hands. Thank you so
much for a truly unforgettable, wondrous experience."
Mary - San Diego - Tuscany 2005
"Thank
you so much for working so hard and so successfully to provide
us with un buen camino! You provided a wonderfully varied
trip- fascinating inns, excellent cuisine, a fine introduction
to a new part of the world for me, a maiden expedition to
Spain! The walks each day were varied, interesting, informative,
challenging and best of all, FUN! Muchas gracias por todo."
Evelyn F., Pennington NJ - El Camino del Norte 2005
"Thanks
again for a wonderful trip. You do a great job and have a
wonderful staff. Hope to see you again next year."
Sarah B., Canada - El Camino del Norte 2005
"What
another special trip for Bill and I. The group was all so
wonderful, the mountains, rivers, hiking, churches, beautiful
old villages, the wonderful people of Spain, the great accommodations,
the food, and our roadside lunches. You are the spirit of
the Camino! You are a wonderful person- you glow the glow
of the walk. We will take a lot of your special qualities
and claim them for us. The group was great. Molly was so good
to us. I pray for success to your new B&B and a Spanish
Steps book in the future written by you."
Betty and Bill W. CA- Camino del Norte 2005
"I
want to thank you for the wonderful walking vacation. It couldn't
have been better."
Tila., Denver CO - Camino del Norte 2005
"What
a fantastic, glorious trip. It was filled with so much- awesome
walks, food, more walks, wine and gelato! Thanks for making
this vacation such a blessing."
Carol - Los Angeles, CA - Tuscany 2005
"You
made Meleto (Tuscany) a home away from home. This has been
a truly unforgettable trip. Thanks for the wonderful days,
delicious food and great company."
Cathy - Los Angeles, CA - Tuscany 2005
"We're
home again and wishing our Italian trip had lasted longer.
We had such a grand time in Tuscany with you, and Richard,
Sergio, and "all the rest of us". It was a very
special time and we're sure sharing it with this particular
group turned those few days into an experience we'll never
forget. Who could lose memories of such special and unique
people. Your cooking was magnificent. We were definitely spoiled,
and greatly appreciative. Italy is like Spain, a MUST repeat.
There's too much we didn't see or do. In either country. Keep
us posted, per favore, on the"the project". I'd
truly love to come for the Grande Opening. Thanks so much
for such a grand experience."
Marilyn, Durango, CO - Tuscany 2005
"Jim J. from Athens, Georgia, here. I hope you had a
feliz año Nuevo, y que 2005 sea más próspero
que nunca! Judy, I cant tell you how much I enjoyed
the Camino Sampler that I did back in June. Im not the
most in-shape guy in the world, and I was reassured that there
would be a van along por si acaso. But I did it, every step!
Thanks in large part to the encouragement of Anne P., and
Molly, the young lady from San Francisco, extremely knowledgeable,
always up! Im sure you know how fortunate you are to
have the wonderful staff you have. I only have one complaint
about the tripthe food was so good, I didnt lose
any weight! 129 kilómetros and not an ounce! Good luck
with your tours in 2005. Continue to share with others the
beauty of España. Saludos a todos."

"Thank
you so much for the great pictures. Susan and I were talking
the other day and we said we would go anywhere with you -
your trip was terrific. I hope we will do another someday
with you."
Carolyn H., IN - Camino Sampler 2000
"I think of you often as I reminisce about the fabulous
Camino, which has to be one of my all time favorite trips,
if not the best. I wear the little silver scallop shell around
my neck, so it is a constant reminder of the beauty and camaraderie
of that walk. I tell anyone who will listen about your wonderful
company, hope some of them turn out to be peregrinos at some
point."
Olga G., CA - Camino Long Walk 2003
"We
are still pinching ourselves - hard to believe we had such
a glorious trip."
Nancy C., OR - Tuscany 2005
"My
time along the Camino with you was one of the great experiences
in my life. Thanks for being such a special person, organized,
diplomatic, personable, fluent in the language of the natives,
obviously loved by them, I could go on and on. You are great
at what you do."
Bob L., CA - Camino de Santiago Sept. 2001
"As
the year comes to a close I'd like to thank you Judy and Carlos
once again from the bottom of my heart for my trip of a lifetime
in Tuscany. It's stayed with me in my heart and mind all these
months. I still dream about it. Seems almost daily that I
think of you, pull out a trip memory, savor it, and put it
back in my life's treasure box to revisit another day. That
always puts a smile on my face, a laugh, and a sense of peace.
It's such generous gift you both give to others with the work
that you do. At this point, I'm truly mulling a Spain trip
in the next two years with you, and would like to bring Mike
along."
Beth Mc., - Tuscany 2004
"I
wanted to tell you how much I got out of our trip-- taking
this trip meant a lot to me for many reasons, one of which
was an interest I have had in the Camino for about two years,
but more importantly what the spiritual aspects mean to me,
particularly at this time. I thought we had a great group
of people and I must tell you once again that Molly and Richard
were wonderful. You have a fine operation going and it reflects
your personality and all the hard work I know you have put
into building your business. Kerrilyn and I will be studying
Spanish in one of the smaller Spanish cities for a couple
of weeks next year. I would like to join you on El Norte in
June(2005), whether we manage the Spanish lessons or not.
In the meantime, I will be studying Spanish in Montreal this
winter."
Sarah B., - Camino Long Walk September 2004
"I've been home four days and finally woke up knowing
I am home!!. The walk with you was wonderful, more strenuous
than I realized, but I did it with the help of prayers and
willpower. Us doctors tend to be compulsive!!. Santiago was
fantastic. I went to mass there each day and was thrilled
with the crowds and the enthusiasm of the pilgrims. I took
your advice and did the bus trip to Cabo Finisterre (The End
of the Earth).
Magerina,
the cathedral guide was excellent. There is a lot to remember,
all good and it comes to be from time to time. I will keep
in touch and think about the next holy year!!"
May L. Hilton Head Island, N.C.
El Camino del Norte-Holy Year Celebration Walk, July 2004
"I
just got back to the States after my extended travels after
my Tuscany journey with you. I've been wanting to tell the
three of you how much I appreciate the trip you put together
for us, and how great it was to know you for that week. It
was beyond all my expectations in every way. The hikes were
beautiful, the accommodations perfect, and the food was fabulous
(and sadly now has found it's way to latch on to me for probably
the rest of all time). But all that said, it wouldn't have
been half the trip it was had it not been for the three of
you.You were great - enthusiastic, helpful, organized, tireless,
and fun. I can only imagine how hard it is to organize and
lead a group on a trip like that, not to mention putting up
with all of us. But you did it with grace, energy and fabulous
humor. It was clear to me early on that it was going to be
a life-changer, and it was. It meant so much to all of us.
I looked at pictures today after walking with some of the
group and it took me back to those little villages, those
incredible meals and those zany stories after dinner. Thanks
for ALL of it. It was a real gift you gave us. I really hope
we'll cross paths again. Keep us on the mailing list because
we'd love to do another trip at some point. Add me to your
reference list! It's with great pleasure that I sing your
praises. Take care of each other. See you another day I hope."
Beth McN. Linn, Oregon - Tuscany June 2004
"I
just want to tell you I had a wonderful time in Italy. It
was sad that I had to cut it short but I had enough to make
me want more. I hope the next group you had at Castello di
Meleto was as entertaining as we were.
I don't think I would have appreciated the country as much
by car. What a beautiful place! And what a fun group of women
(and guys, of course)
You sure run a great tour. I was so spoiled by your cooking
that eating isn't the same. It may make a difference that
I like to eat good food but I can't cook to save my life!!!"
Bonnie L. Oregon, WI - Tuscany 2004
"We're
back in the real world and now our trip seems like a wonderful
dream. Where are you now? I imagine the Tuscany trip is over
now, are you on the Camino again? I really loved our Camino
experience, a part of it comes back to me every day, we had
such a nice group and you are just marvelous. I have to start
the proceedings to make you a saint! I'll always remember
the welcome sight of the blue and white vans after a tiring
(but always beautiful) walk, with the expectation of a great
Judy lunch and wine and gazpacho, what more can you ask! And
the memorable stay and dinner at the horse farm, my very favorite,
there really are so many wonderful memories, thank you!!
Bill and I did have a great time on the rest of our trip,
we particularly liked Bilbao and the Guggenheim, San Sebastian
was fun and the pinchos out of this world. We loved this little
town on the coast near San Sebastian called Hondarabia and
went to Amezketa where we stayed at one of those rural houses,
it was nice and they have a lot of hiking nearby, it's a thought
for staying at one place and exploring the Basque countryside.
We also liked Vitoria Gasteiz and Pamplona."
Lucrecia and Bill C., Tiberon, CA - Camino del Norte May
2004
"I
wanted to thank you for such a meaningful adventure on the
Way. As each day has gone by since my return I have not stopped
thinking about all of us together sharing laughs, struggles, aches,
pains,blisters,compassion, and hopes and dreams.
The Camino,
which I could only have walked with your constant smile and
enthusiasm, was a dream come true. I literally dream about
The Road every night--it is a sweet dream. I hope that all
your dreams come true and they will because there are always
''miracles on the Camino""
Paula S., Boston, MA - Camino May 2004
"I
just wanted to write and say what a good time Vicki and I
had on the
tour. The food and accommodations were excellent. Your tour
made it so
easy to relax and appreciate what a gorgeous country I was
in. Also,
Molly and Juan were fantastic-you've done such a great job
of
finding people to help you-it's the four of you that really
made the
trip fun! I hope you find the perfect place for a Bed and
Breakfast-and when you do, all you will need to do to insure
it's success is to let all of your past customers know about!
Thanks again and good luck in all you do in the future!"
Jennifer J. ME. - Camino de Santiago May 2004
"Words
can not do justice to the gratitude I feel in my heart, for
every moment you spent before, during and after our Camino
adventure, to insure that the trip would be memorable. Every
detail was taken care of. The accommodations were varied and
comfortable, the picnic lunches always delicious, and the
van support a welcomed sight on those rainy days. You and
Molly conducted yourselves in a professional manner and were
always responsive to individual needs. I especially appreciate
the courtesy with which you treated other pilgrims on the
road, offering food and sharing van rides to those not part
of our group. My only regret is that I am not walking with
you now on the Camino del Norte!
It is
no mystery to me why you continue to live and share the Camino
so generously. You are not a touring company. What you do
is introduce people to the "healing" possibilities
of the journey. I returned home with less baggage and healed
parts of me that I didn't even know were broken. I feel remarkably
light and unburdened. I have always believed that what we
lack in our culture is ritual. I am grateful that I belong
to a "sacramental" church where the rites of transformation
are always available and actually work when one approaches
them with faith and love. The Pilgrim Mass at the end was
a highlight for me. I was absolutely thrilled by the swinging
incense!
Thank
you again for your presence on the journey. You set the tone
for the positive memories we all took home. Keep in touch,
and send periodic progress reports on the next stage of your
journey."
Mary Ann G. Los Angeles, CA - Camino de Santaigo May 2004
"I
know you have heard from Ann, but since Dana Griswold passed
your inquiry on to me I wanted you to know that our pilgrimage
was a huge success, if that's the right word. Half our group
made it to church Sunday, despite sleep deprivation and jet
lag. They all sat together in church, and afterwards were
all bubbling over, and crowding around me for hugs all around.
One of our young people told her mother the pilgrimage was
the greatest experience of her life! My own heart and memories
are full -- the trip provided a lifetime of reflection material,
and I feel as if part of me is still in Spain.
Thank you for organizing our trip and for sending us Ann and
Romero and Amalia to guide us. The only glitches were on the
part of Iberia, outside the purview of the excellent arrangements
you made for us. The entire experience was absolutely unforgettable
-- I will treasure it always."
Cynthia W. Christ C., Kensington, MD - Camino de Santiago,
June 2004
"I've
been busy ever since our return from doing Camino Sampler,
Tour #3, but didn't want the entire season to go by without
telling you what a wonderful experience it was for Stuart
and me. Your leader Molly was top-notch. I imagine you know
that your newcomer, Molly, is a natural in the job, too. The
meals they prepared, the arrangements they made for everyone's
comfort, etc. were all so thoughtfully done. Of course we
were sad not to meet YOU, but Stuart says we should do the
northern route some day so perhaps we'll have another crack
at it. I'm working on our album and still glowing with the
memories of our trip. Thanks for all your help and organization!"
Alison S. - Camino de Santiago June 2004
"I
want to let you know how much I enjoyed my journey in Spain
with Molly. I know you know what a treasure these 2 people
are. They are such a light & made my journey that more
special. My experience was more than I had expected &
that is due to your insightfulness, & the wonderful energy
of Molly. I feel blessed to have been touched by them. Thank
you again & continue to give people like myself the opportunity
to walk the Camino."

"THE
BEST EVER--
"I
hope I can express myself as I am having quite the challenge
getting down from our "Camino High", it is not easy.
We are all struggling. I titled this THE BEST EVER because
that is the expression all my friends used as we had to head
home from Santiago. After 20 years of putting trips together
I consider this a major compliment to you and Molly. You have
a goldmine in those two...what a perfect pair. I know it is
all your knowledge, planning and perhaps recipes but as any
seasoned traveler knows ... it is all in the execution...and
execute they did. The Camino is in our blood. I was not two
days into the trip as my incurable travel addiction took over.
I had to keep telling myself to "stay in the moment."
I am prepared to book again next year for the Camino del Norte.
I
have been home 2 days and I have 15 walker ready to send in
deposits. We can certainly talk details when you return to
Aspen.
The only
other 2 stipulations for our booking are # 1, we get a picture
on your website. We tried our damnedest to beat out that book
club from PA as the best group ever but I will settle for
a tie! Don't tell my friends as they don't want to settle
for a tie! #2 is that we have Molly as our guides with a drop
in again from Lola....what a doll. I could drive you crazy
with more of our Camino Talk but will wait for when we meet
in Colorado.
Also if there is anything I can ever do to help you with sales
or promotions at shows in the Denver area I'd be more than
willing."
Linda B. and friends. DENVER, CO - Camino de Santiago June
2004
"I
can't tell you how grateful we are to you for convincing us
to
stay in Northern Spain after our walk along the Camino. We
truly loved all the wonderful tips and the Picos were wonderful.
We stayed in paradores most of the time because they had that
offer dia de dorados for 30% off. It went all too quickly!!!
Molly
was excellent as a leader and our group was really very congenial.
We loved all the places we stayed on the trip and the airport
hotel in Madrid worked out well. It's only five min. from
the metro so we took that into town."
Marian & Jack B., Austin Texas - Camino de Santiago
June 2004
"The
spirit of the camino is still coursing through my veins. Which
I find extraordinary, as we are home the best part of 2 months.
I can't thank you enough for putting on the tour for just
the two of us. I would have understood it if you had told
us that you were not running that tour before we met, but
after walking with you I understand that you hate to disappoint
anyone and you are too soft hearted.
I felt a need to walk the Camino this year and did not want
to leave it till later in the year. I did not know it at the
time but we would be unable to do the walk later in the year
as Maire's mother has had a serious operation and has to have
another one in July. So we might not get away for a while.
But having walked the Camino has given us both the serenity
to accept her illness in a much better spirit. I really don't
have much to do other than stay in the background and be there
for Maire when she needs me.
I really did not expect the Camino to have had such a GREAT
effect on me. It seems to have drawn so many treads of my
live together in such a vibrant way. As regards the rain I
think it and the snow added to the enjoyment of the trip even
if I would have chosen sunshine before the trip. I hope you
have a great year and that your clients have as great a time
as we did."
David and Maire., Dublin, Ireland - Camino April 2004
"I
wanted to thank you again for the wonderful experiences and
the very happy memories of the Camino del Norte. These memories
were especially precious to me as "el camino" back
home was one of the hardest I've ever traveled. On Monday
(June 7), my mother took a turn for the worse.
I really
held on to the memories of the Camino as I sat in airports
and on planes, focusing on all the things that needed to be
done and taking care of as much as I could. I felt that I
would have very little time once I was home. When it started
to get just a little too emotional for me, I'd close my eyes
and remember things like being helped over rocks, mud, and
caca de vaca in the Picos; definitions of "slight"
uphill and "slight" downhill; seat dancing in the
blue van; the gorgeous beach walks; lasagna and sidra; toasting
to ......... anything; all the wonderful eucalyptus groves;
the tremendous energy of touching down on the Camino Frances;
the music of the Tunas under the arches; feeling the beauty
of the Santiago cathedral. And when I really thought I was
really going to lose it, all I needed to do was to imagine
those mules coming down the mountain dangling from ore carts!
Again, thanks for the memories ..........and you truly deserve
the name Santa Judy!! You kept us together and made everything
happen with great enthusiasm, energy, patience and caring!
I knew that the Camino del Norte would be a special adventure
for me, but I never imagined just how special it would become.
Please thank Juan Carlos for all his help - especially getting
me out of the Pico in one piece and for his medical expertise
in the care of ailing tortugas.
Please thank Richard for his great kindness and for making
me laugh so much. (And I'd also appreciate it if you would
ask him where my breakfast is!)"
Dorothy B., Washington - Camino del Norte May 2004
"PLEASE,
PLEASE, PLEASE, figure out a way to meet us next summer!!!!
We've all been depressed thinking that it's already been a
year since our walk. For me however, its good that we did
it last year as right now I'm suffering from plantar faciitis
from jumping around on those little cardio blocks at Curves.
But really, that experience last year was a lifetime high
and we're all excited about doing a few days on the Camino
next year. Even if the Colorado group plans the same time
we do next year, can't we all go together and just split up
for meals if the group is too big? It wouldn't be as much
fun as if we had you all to ourselves, but we can't imagine
coming back to that area of Europe and not seeing the two
of you or doing a few days on the Camino."
Debbie D., PA (Book Club Gang)
"Still
haven't come home in my heart from our truly magical trip
to Santiago last October. And now... Tuscany?! I
think of the Camino several times a week, and I know I will
return. I can't remember if I ever wrote to tell you what
wonderful hands you left us in that week. Manny was wonderful,
patient, talented and kind. Having Chi-sing and Manuel on
the trip only made it better. Hope you are having fun gearing
up for what will be a busy (and stressful!) year for you and
the Spanish Steps crew. Thanks!"
Elizabeth M., California - Camino de Santiago October
2003
"I am looking forward to reading the Robb Report article
in February (2004) about "Santa Judy"-- you're the
best! You coordinate, you facilitate, you organize, you cook,
carry and tote tons of luggage, run errands for all, guide
your guides and driver, set the music, lodgings, food, prepare
the best of lunches, make reservations, remember birthdays,
provide souvenirs, accommodate each peregrino/a. Whims-demands-tolerate.
Just doing, doing, doing for each of your walkers needs/desires
with compassion, understanding, guidance, love and intuitive-skillful-graciousness......
and so much more". "Thank
you so very much".
"P.S.
My husband and I are still conversing about which of your
walking tours to take: Tuscany or Camino del Norte? Whatever
it is we come to, please know, well be there".
Olga S., Portland, OR., September 2003
"I thought
I would pass this holiday newsletter on to you. It was sent
to me from Judy, the travel guide of the Italy/Tuscany hiking
trip I took with her in the spring of '99. If you are possibly
thinking of taking a trip abroad, as I am again, you might like
to consider one of the tours Judy is planning for 2001. Having
traveled with her I can only say how impressed I was with her
travel experience, reasonable rates, language and people skill,
fun personality and ability to handle any situation with ease.
Besides that, she is a wonderful chef! The usual hassles of
Transportation, sightseeing, hotels, restaurants were all arranged
by Judy leaving us to relax and enjoy the adventure. Best part,
the groups were small and there was always the opportunity to
break away and "do your own thing". Meanwhile, I'm equally enchanted
with several of the upcoming trip options. If you are also tempted,
let me know which one and perhaps we'll end up on the same tour."
Kristin, Vail, Colorado
"Hat's off to you and your staff. A memorable experience.
Manni was great, food and accommodations first class and the
walk more than I had hoped for. Loved the flexibliity the guys
gave us, the independence we wanted and the support when we
needed it. Thanks for all".
Carolyn S.,Virginia - Camino 2003
"I am suffering big time with re-entry depression! We all
feel like we just got dropped out of a time warp back to this
reality which is not as good as the one we were in last week. Does
everyone go through this phase it is bad cannot get my head
out of the clouds! Thank you for the best time ever. The walk
was very difficult for me but so worth it. The manor homes we
stayed in were out of this world and the food to die for - especially
Judy's cookin'. So gracias a million times.
Hope you
are doing well on the camino again. Surely it cannot be as
much fun as it was with us! I didn't know a 100 (-15 for me)
mile walk could have such an effect on me".
The Cliff-Note Club Gang, Philly, PA
"Dear
Judy, Handful of responses! I received 90 rave reviews in which
most people took time to really tell me things about the trip.
I'll be getting my hiking boots this weekend! The minute I heard
about you and Spanish Steps I just "knew" it was the
right decision. I think I have already begun my journey! I am
so looking forward to walking with you".
Mfady
"Well,
if you are looking for positive recommendations, I don't know
how much more positive I could be than saying if I had the
money right now, I would go in a heartbeat.
My husband
and I went on the "stroll" across Spain in 1997
and it was probably the very best experience we have ever
had. Our memories of Judy, the plans that she made for us,
the food she prepared for us, the places we stayed, everything
was beyond expectation.
Last June,
with so many happy memories, we sent one of our daughters
and her husband of 25 years, on a trip with Judy. They now
are looking forward to the day they can "do it again".
Judy is
a lovely person, always happy and so smart - her knowledge
of Spain is like no other person I know of.
Go for
it! You'll never know anyone better, nicer, kinder, knowledgeable,
a better cook, --- you name it, if it's something nice, it's
Judy and the Spanish Steps".
Meldie
C., Clearwater, Florida
"I
can't thank you enough for the way you organized our peregrinaje
in Spain. For me it was a deep personal experience. So much
so that I was able to extend it right here in my back yard
by going back and forth to Harvard Square on foot, walking
past beautiful gardens, and chatting with neighbors walking
their dogs, gardening, and with shop keepers. One woman asked
if I were in the ministry. I chuckled, but I thought it was
nice that she sensed the spirituality I was experiencing.
I even got a fresh blister from my new Birkenstocks and felt
amused that I avoided blisters walking the camino only to
get one in my home.
Lorraine
will always have a big place in my heart. Her many gifts as
a human being made it possible for me to experience the camino
as expressed so beautifully by the poem by Antonio Machado.
Thank you for including it."
Betty, Boston,
MA
"Our
return to Carolina yesterday went smoothly but was not as exciting
as the pilgrimage we made with you. Thanks again for the excellent
leadership you gave our group. We hope you had safe returns
to your homes.
I
believe all of us will remember the Camino and the respect
we have for it and for the pilgrims that walked the road.
I learned a significant amount about my faith, the history
of the place, the meaning of my relationships with long-time
friends and new friends, and more about the mystery of why
I am here and what is expected of me."
Chuck S., North Carolina
"We can't believe we've been home a month already. Sorry
it's taken us so long to write. We wanted to thank you so
much for such a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Every
part of the Camino Long Walk was fantastic and beyond our
expectations. Each day's walk was so unique and beautiful;each
hotel had its own special charm; and, the meals and wines
were wonderful - wow!
We
really appreciate the special care and interest you took in
each of us, and the enthusiasm and knowledge of Spain and
the Camino that you shared with us.
We
are still in awe of the trip and are hoping to be able to
travel with you again. Seriously, we're hoping to try the
Northern Route in 2004. Think you could put up with us again?
Thank you so much for everything."
Bonnie and Krishna,
San Diego and India
"I've
walked the Camino twice with Judy and her team - it's an outstanding
experience; one that you'll never forget. Both times we traveled
with a dozen or so high school kids - who also loved it. You
need to know going in that this is by no means a "typical"
or "touristy" kind of trip. You'll do a LOT of walking - and
it can be steep and hot and rainy! The towns you'll stay in
are beautiful, but are off the beaten path. You'll see things
that the tourists never see. Judy picks wonderful little inns
in which to stay - they're not rugged by any means . but neither
are they plush - it's a different kind of "first class!" You'll
have plenty of opportunity to learn some Spanish.
Assuming
you'll end up in Santiago, it's breathtaking. So is the scenery
along the way to get there. I'd
do it again in a moment - and I will one day! I can't speak
highly enough of Judy - she's a wonderful, thoughtful, caring
host and she organizes these trips beautifully."
Larry, Bloomfied Hill, MI
"Thanks
for reminding me of one of the most delightful trips of my
life. Judy is an incredibly alert and organized hostess. She
is always looking for the perfect touch. The camino itself
is beautiful and inspiring. Every day brought a new scene
and experience. Every place we stayed at had its unique charm--places
that ordinary tourists never see. The food is super and Judy
and Lorraine are both lots of fun. I hope to go to Italy with
Judy's tour next summer--so that tells you everything. Buen
Camino."
Penny, Florida
"Thanks for the recommendations on hotels. Both places
worked out well. Your books were very useful and we had a
great time exploring beaches and back roads of Asturias and
Galicia, especially as we kept running across “Camino de Santiago”
signs. Thanks again to you for a wonderful and memorable vacation
in Spain. Hope to walk with you again."
Eadaoin and Isable, Canada (September 2002)
"I
am so glad to have another friend in Aspen. I am sure we will
be going on another trip with you in the future. You were
great neighbor!"
Sandy and Marilyn M. Aspen, CO (April 2002)
"Thanks
for a wonderful week on the Camino! You and Barb certainly
made this a memorable time for me-----good food, beautiful
places to rest our weary bones, great weather(well almost),
and lots of information about this amazing pilgrimage. The
fact that everything went so smoothly is a testimony to your
excellent planning! Thanks again and Buen Camino!"
Nancy B—Telluride, CO & Indianapolis
"This
has been everything I hoped for and more. You have been so
great from the very beginning of our e-mails and calls back
and forth. I can’t think of one thing I would have you do
differently. You will continue to have success, I know because
of your wonderful spirit. I do appreciate the gift of you.
Hasta Luego."
Carolyn, IN (April 2002)
"It
is very rare that someone can provide experiences that create
beautiful and meaningful memories—but you two have done just
that! Thank you for giving me memories that I will cherish
with a happy heart and an expanded soul."
Kathy C. IN Group (April 2002)
"Muchas
gracias por el Camino guidance! Gracias por las botas that
you let me use and for the comidas that you prepared..yum
yum. I feel renewed."
Su amiga—Elena, FL (April 2002)
" I
harken back in memory, mind and spirit almost every day to
the wonderful days on the Camino with new friends. Chris F.
sent me a note and a photo of the two of us which is on the
fridge. My summer in Europe is highlighted by the peace that
enveloped and nurtured me on your tour and I just consider
it all a gift from God to have been plucked from my everyday
life and forced to unwind. I honestly can tell you that my
week with you was the best week of my vacation. Barcelona
was okay but a shock of city after the peace and simplicity
of Galicia. I sorely missed the walking and the company of
you all. The only thing that still connected me to our time
was wandering into the old churches throughout Barcelona and
feeling that similar devotional spirit which marked those
that we all crossed the threshold of, with, I hope, reverence."
Linda O., Santa Fe
"Thank you (and thank Juan Carlos and his assistant) for
obtaining such wonderful seats for us at the opera. MJ and
I felt very important, indeed, and had a wonderful view of
the proceedings both on and off stage. The performance was
delightful and it was a fine way to cap off our wonderful
experience in Spain. I hope you, Lorraine and Maria are now
thoroughly unwound! Please say hello to all and stay in touch!"
Jill
"Thank
you for a wonderful trip!. Alfonso and I enjoyed very much
every bit of it. You do an excellent job! We had such a great
time we are looking forward to the next one. Please, let us
know about the schedule for 2003. We definitely want to go
in the spring/early summer to the Camino del Norte and would
like to combine it with the walk through France (Le Puy -
Conque) which you mentioned. Best wishes and regards to you
and Nanette, also to Felix the First, we hope he is recuperating
nicely."
Rosamaria & Alfonso Weilbach
"After
looking at your web site again and seeing all the new stuff
you added, I so want to come back. In fact, despite all my
pains
and blisters, I never wanted to leave Spain. The trip was
so
amazing and the country so beautiful and inviting that I wanted
to stay forever. I'm ready to move there as soon as Craig
says
the word! Who knows? Maybe we'll sign up again in the not-too-distant
future! I'm all for it!"
Stephanie and Craig, New Jersey, (Spring 2002)
"I
hope this note finds you well. Enclosed is an article that
appeared in the Boston Globe newspaper on Sunday, July 28
(2002). It was on the 2nd page of the travel section (Boston
Globe is New England's largest newspaper) It also was published
in the Worcester Telegram. I
was pleased that it included your website. We think the article
turned out to be a fun and somewhat informative piece that
"touched" on the experience.
It
has been fun putting together our photo albums, sharing pictures
and stories. I look forward to walking the whole Camino in
1-2 years! Just not on a holy year. I may contact you for
some tips.
Thanks
again for all you did for our group. We had a wonderful trip
because of you. Wishing you a lot of good luck and Wonderful
Adventures."
Shelley L.,Boston MA
"PS.
Could never say enough good things about Lorraine (Miller)--her
compassion, knowledge, spirit, humor and organization were
over the top !!!"
"What
a wonderful adventure I had with you and Juan Carlos on the
Camino. I enjoyed Spain so much. You and Juan Carlos are tow
of the greatest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet.
This experience will always be remembered as a high in my
life. Thanks so much for caring for us and the train tickets
to Madrid."
Pamela P, Denver, Colorado
"Not
a day goes by that I don't remember my time in Spain. Thank
you, thank you, thank you, for a wonderful experience. I'm
making good on my promise - I'm coming back for your long
walk in May, and I'm bringing my friends with me. At least
2, and perhaps more. Would it be possible to have Lorraine
with us again to teach me more Spanish?? My experience after
leaving Santiago was great - my room at the Lighthouse at
Finisterre was spartan, but comfortable and inexpensive. I
recommend it highly - I was treated to a stunning sunset at
the end of the earth. ...I realized what a great renewing
experience it was to be outdoors and to walk! I give you five
stars for everything. Thank you, truly, from my heart. Bright
Blessings."
Mary Ellen, Seattle,WA
"Again,
our deep thanks for a wonderful trip, one we will always cherish.
From our first email correspondence with you to the last days
in Santiago we were thrilled to be on this journey with you.
We certainly hope to stay in contact at least occasionally
because we now feel closely linked with Spain, the Camino,
Spanish Steps, our group, and last but not least, the Woman
who Made it Possible!"
Peg and Bob, Minnesota
"I
have walked the camino with Judy for three years and each
year has been a wonderful and different experience. I have
made life-long friends through the tours and count Judy among
them. I travel extensively and generally make my own arrangements
so I am very particular, but Judy excels in all aspects of
tour management. The tours are well run, efficient, and a
bargain. You definitely get your money's worth. Judy knows
the camino and the many nuances of Spain. She is a wealth
of information and her trail guides are equally prepared.
And the food! Well, Judy is a fantastic cook and I have enjoyed
all the wonderful meals she prepares and arranges - including
one of the most memorable birthday dinners I have ever had.
I love the camino and fully expect that I will walk again
next year with Judy. Please do not hesitate to contact me
if you have any further questions. I hope to see you on the
road to Santiago next year!"
Nanette, Edina MN
"On
our hike over to Gothic Sam and I were talking about our trip
with you, Judy, and Sam mentioned again how it had surpassed
all his expectations. He isn't here now to include his own
message, so you may be receiving a separate e-mail from him.
In many ways we are both still assimilating the trip. It will
always stand in our minds as this peaceful interlude, the
way life is meant to be, in contrast to the horror of Sept.
11. You are an extraordinary leader, Judy - We appreciate
all the efforts you made . Please do give us a call when you
get back to Colorado - and thank you again from two grateful
pilgrims!!"
Sam and Ann Carbondale, CO (2001)
"Since the J2A group has returned back to Michigan from Spain,
we have had many get together where we have exchanged pictures,
stories and laughs. We talk about you all the time! And we
miss you! All of my pictures have turned out great, and you
are in a lot of them! I just wanted to once again say "Thank
You" for the best experience of my life! The eight days that
we spent on the Camino seem surreal now. They were wonderful
times! And I am so glad that you were our guide! I really
hope that I hear back from you soon! I will look forward to
telling everyone in J2A that I heard from our "amazing Judy!"
Sean G., Michigan and the J2A Group (Summer 2001)
"First of all we had a once in a lifetime trip with you
and I thank you, what a dream of a group really. I know we
will stay in touch with you and all the others. But most important
today I hope you are clicked on to your computer, I want you
to go to this place Washington
Post and then click on to sports and read Lenny's article
today Thursday July 19 about Sergio Garcia, he has written
it with a secret meaning just for you."
Vicky M, VA
"Thanks
again so much for the great trip and introduction to the Camino!
It went beyond my expectations!.., the culture, the people,
the accommodations, the food, the language, the history and
the feelings of the Camino. You and Lorraine were wonderful
guides, teachers and friends to travel with. Muchicimas Gracias!"
Barb H., San Francisco, CA
"...but
the highlight of 2000 was definitely my trip to Spain. I traveled
with 10 other friends, old and new to northwestern Spain where
we spent 12 days walking 160 kilometers on the Camino de Santiago
de Compostela. The trip was arranged by a tour guide who spends
part of her year in Aspen working as a caterer and the rest
of the year in Spain and Italy running her Spanish Steps and
Roman Roads business. It was a fabulous experience, one I
will never forget. We spent each day walking 8-12 miles per
day through the countryside on footpaths and country which
have been traveled by scores of pilgrims for more than 1200
years. Our luggage was transported to our inn each day while
we walked through the beautiful countryside and small villages,
attempting to converse with the locals, eating and drinking
regional favorites, and meeting people from all over the world
who were also pilgrims along the Camino. Our group of 10 also
spent a few days traveling in Spain to Toledo and Avila, and
extended our stay in Santiago de Compostela in order to visit
Finisterre, the end of the earth, about 40 kilometer beyond
Santiago."
Pat Ch., Basalt, CO
"Loved
the wonderful Camino; I hope to do it again (but the longer
version) in the not-too-distant future -- maybe the year after
next. I have a friend who's interested too. Someone told me
today that I looked "euphoric" last week -- not just rested
but almost out of body!!! Thanks for that too. Bye for now".
Katie NYC
"I just
wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had on the
Camino with you!!! I don't think I can thank you enough or
convey to you just how much fun we had and what a wonderful
family trip you organized and implemented for all of us. Thank
you!!! I really miss the great days we had walking and talking
and getting to know Northern Spain. Cully and I have been
a little lonely since coming home.
It truly was a great trip and you handled us all SO well,
there was NO fighting which is a small miracle for the Torrance
clan! I sure hope we can do your Spain trip or something else
with you in the future, we'll work on it with my parents!
You have really peaked my interest in the Camino and I really
hope that one day I will have the chance to do the whole thing.
Maybe when Cully is old enough to carry her own pack!
I hope all is well with you and that you have a great winter
in Aspen. Please do keep in touch and put me on you mailing
list."
M+ M Galaher, Portland, OR.
"We
really loved our "walk" and think that one of the best aspects
was the diversity you gave us, in countryside and towns and
cities. You also showed us how much there is to learn."
E.S., California
"I'm
not sure that words are adequate to tell you what the trip
to Santiago meant to me. Suffice it to say that I shall be
recommending it to other special people for a long, long time..."
Marie T., San Francisco
"I
want to thank you for "El Camino." It was wonderful to have
some solitude and be removed of all the distractions of life.
Our tour with Claudio of Santiago was excellent- great guide.
Now I'm ready to walk longer- three months..."
Connie K., San Francisco
"We
had such a wonderful pilgrimage in Spain and you Javier were
the greater part of the reason. I have recommended you to
everyone.... I also want you to know the impact you have had
on us all. Angela and Amanda are going back to walk the camino
again sometime and Dick mentioned he would like to walk the
entire road sometime as well! We really appreciate that you
were so flexible with us and so supportive. Your positive
attitude, your energy, and your genuine interest in people
not only make you an ideal leader in what you are doing, but
they make you a wonderful role model for kids and adults alike...
You gave us an experience we will never forget."
Sally B., Michigan
"My
mother has already read Iberia. You know, my Mom and I have
taken several lovely vacations together but I must tell you
traveling with you and Cuqui and becoming a Pilgrim was really
a highlight and enabled me to share very special times and
memories with my Mom-something I will always have! Your the
best! "
Janet T., Indiana
"...super
trip!!! I greatly appreciated your consideration and going
the extra kilometer. You may use me as a reference if you
have potential clients with questions."
Betty K., California
"You
really did a fabulous job of organizing, rallying and teaching.
I enjoyed every minute of being with you. Your Spanish is
wonderful and your welcoming spirit is a joy to behold. I
know you spent an inordinate amount of time arranging... Thanks
for the walk of a lifetime. I feel blessed."
Janie R., Aspen and Michigan
"Thank
you again and again... we loved every minute of our journey.
You are a mighty fine woman to share this "secret" with us."
Meldie C., Florida and Utah
"We
had an outstanding time. When people ask us-how was the trip-
we say that it exceeded our expectations."
Bill and Kay L., Minnesota.
"I
wanted to let you know how once again our trip with you was
great! Tuscany was sooooo beautiful -- I have already found
a source for Brunello! Seriously, our Walks with you are some
of my Moms and my best shared memories -- something we will
always have. Thanks for everything."
Janet T., Indiana.
"Really
enjoyed the trip and in looking over my pictures plus reading
my diary Pat regrets(a little) that she wasn't along. Maybe
we could join you on a short walk next year--I'd like to do
it again! Particularly with your cooking! And the wine of
course. Don't be surprised if we're along next year. Keep
us in mind--it's been great!!!"
Fran D., California - Camino Long Walk 1998
"I've
meant to write for weeks but life keeps getting in the way.
We loved your trip; very special, very low key, easy sweet
hotels, good food and wonderful memories! We are having our
reunion dinner and wish you could be part of it. Please tell
Ramiro and Susana how much they added to the trip - delightful
people. I hope our paths cross again."
N.T., Meno Park
"Just
a thank-you letter and letter of high praise. I had a marvelous
time on the Camino with you and the group--mass, vespers,
rain, days walking alone, extra sight-seeing excursions. As
you know know, it was my first organized tour trip anywhere--let
alone on the Camino--and I am now convinced it is the way
to go! Thank you for making it all happen so smoothly. Thank
you for being there. I look forward to traveling with you
again, maybe with my son, Jesse, maybe in some way assisting
you. Let's talk".
T.A., Colorado
"Thank
you for orchestrating such a wonderful experience for me on
the camino. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing!!! And much
appreciated all your extra touches,ie resources, daily maps,
catered meals and side outings. Your thoughtfulness about
my room assignments and including my son Brian in Santiago
was above and beyond. And finally, not to mention all your
TLC"
L. E. Denver, Colorado
"Well,
the kids are back in school and we've finally had the "dog
and pony show" to tell the whole parish about our pilgrimage
to Santiago. They were all green with envy. Roger has started
drawing from the experience for his sermons(something like,
"follow the yellow arrows in life") and we have shared many
warm memories and laughs in the retelling. The story of Jorge's
"Tigre" has been especially appreciated. Thank you for all
your enthusiasm along the way. I know that we were difficult
at times, but you handled us like the professional tour leader
that you are".
"It
was a life changing experience that we will remember till
the end of our days. Thank you".
M. C. and the J2A Gang, Bloomfield Hill, Michigan
"Enclosed
are some photos I took on the trip. The duplicates are for
Sr. Felix when next time you see him. I really had the best
time on your wonderful tour. I talked about it so much that
the people at the next table asked me for information. I gave
her all your information, expect a call from....She’s from
Santa Fe, so who knows?"
J.S. Santa Fe, New Mexico
"Our
trip along the Camino was tremendous! It was awesome to walk
along such an ancient path, and I came home with such a sense
of peace. Even with the hectic life I have been leading since
we got back, that peace remains. You and Lorraine did a masterful
job, and once again I thank you very, very much. I hope your
trips following ours were as magical. I keep thinking about
the Columbine we saw on the Camino-just like summer in Colorado".
A.P. Boulder, Colorado
"I’ve
thought about you and the trip so much these months since
returning. But two events in the last week in particular prompt
this letter. The first event took place at a meeting of University
of Idaho alumni in San Francisco where I met the wife of one
of your former pilgrims, whom I had met previously through
the U of I events; she and her husband are avid walkers and
hikers, and last summer they walked 200 miles in Ireland.
But her brother in law was with you in 1998 on the Camino
and just raved about you and the trip. Then this weekend I
directed a spiritual retreat in which I used the physical
pilgrimage as the metaphor for the spiritual pilgrimage, which
I explain and describe in terms that the Spanish mystics and
other medieval and Renaissance mystics employ. All the women
in this retreat were fascinated, several expressing a desire
to go on the Camino. It occurs to me that a beautiful camino
would be to combine the two aspects, appealing to men and
women for whom the inner journey to God is foremost in their
lives. Much love to you, Judy. Thank you again for making
the trip perfect. You were unfailingly kind to everyone. I
admire your patience and tact. Con carino",
